HALF an hour from the banks of Loch Lomond and yet only a short train journey from Glasgow city centre, the towns of East Dunbartonshire were yesterday named the best places in Britain to bring up a family.
The area’s superior schools, leisure facilities, low crime rate and attractive family housing saw it ranked number one in a survey of parents across the UK.
East Renfrewshire took the second place in the survey by Reader’s Digest magazine, with West Lothian also making it into the top ten local authority areas to raise children.
However, inner-city areas did not fare well, with Newcastle upon Tyne the highest-ranking city at only 108th place.
