A Polish shipyard has beaten a Scottish rival in the contest for two public sector orders, it has been confirmed.
The Remontowa yard has been named as the preferred bidder for a fisheries protection vessel ahead of Port Glasgow’s Ferguson yard.
The Gdansk yard has also won a contract to build a new ferry for use on Caledonian MacBrayne’s Wemyss Bay to Rothesay route.
The bids were bogged down in a row over European competition regulations.
Politicians queried the Scottish Executive’s insistence that shipyards outside the UK had to be given the chance to tender for the work.
